Don't We All Dream? And Winter Care For Horses.

Don't we all want to be like this with our horses? Or at least dream about it with the little girl that is within your heart?

I have been really busy the last few days and have slacked off of my blogging. I am hoping get back on track though and keep going with the thirty day challenge.
But, I have been keeping busy with Chester and made wonderful memories with him and been faced with challenges with him too. I am hoping to make some other blog posts rather then just the thirty day challenge.

I wanted to encourage you guys a little bit. If you guys are getting busy in life, challenges are coming up, things are changing, people are coming and going, your discouraged, excited or sad.....my encouragement?......(First look to the Lord for His peace and joy. Which He will freely give if you ask.)....But, also, go hug your horse. = ) Pause for a moment and count your blessings. Be thankful for the horsey friend that the Lord is allowing to be in your life right now. And for friends and family that are there for you. Christ is always there for you and is willing to carry your burdens. You just have to hand them over to Him.

Hey guys, I had this idea. Winter is coming and we are all getting ready to care for our horses in colder weather and perhaps wet rainy weather, I was wondering if you all would want to share your winter "tricks"/techniques for taking care of your horse during the winter. You could send them to me, then I would make them all into a post and post it on my blog for everyone to glean info from.
Your advice/tricks/techniques don't have to be that long, (they could be one sentence) or they could be a couple paragraphs. Up to you! I would give you total credit and have a link to your blog along with your advice.
Let me know what you all think! If I get enough people that want to do it, I will do another post letting you all know what we're going to do.

Happy Trails Ya'll!

  1. You may already know this, but horses need extra fiber during the winter, such as hay. This forage ferments in the horse's digestive tract, thus producing heat. Remember that horses don't get as cold as easily as us people. The horse can be fairly comfortable if the temperature is in the 30s and won't need too much extra fiber. However, in the single digits(Fahrenheit) they will need the extra feed and possible a blanket if they have been body clipped. Wind, rain, and snow can also make it feel colder, so remember to take that into account.

    1. Thanks so much! I already did know, most, of that. = ) I can always learn more though and of course it doesn't hurt to hear things twice! Plus, it seems like all that info was spread through out my brain and you brought it all together in a few simple sentences. Thank you! = )
If I end up making "the post", do you want me to put this in there?

  2. That is such a sweet picture! I wish I had some winter tips for caring for horses but know very very little on the subject. Sounds like I'll be needing to read the post you write once you've gathered all your tips from others.

p.s. Thanks for commenting on my blog today. I really appreciate it! :)

    1. Thanks Courtney! I thought it would be a fun idea for a blog post but nobody (except American Girl) seems interested. = (

No problem! You have a beautiful, fun blog and those hats are adorable!

  3. If you still want to make that post (which you definitely should - its a great idea) then you could get tips and tricks from the internet as well.
Its coming up summer for us but I will give a few of my ideas.
    - I always put rugs on my horses - espcially as they are on 24/7 turnout. Horses that are wet plus rain equals a very cold horse. What American Girl said is all very true but unless you have a very hardy self sufficent horse will get cold and drop weight after some time.
    - Because it gets darker earlier you may not always have time to ride so a quick lunge or free schooling or even just a groom/handwalk will be fine instead of riding.
    - After you ride always make sure your horse is completely dry and warm before leaving the barn.
